How many Outlaughs have there been? Outlaugh 2012 was number 5.
When was the first Outlaugh? The first Outlaugh was in June 2005 and ran four nights. Mike Player collaborated with Leo Garcia, Artistic Director at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica. It was hosted by Lea DeLaria. There was a film “Outlaugh!” made of the event.
When was the second Outlaugh? The second Outlaugh was in October 2006 at the Renberg Theater in Hollywood. Outlaugh 2006 was hosted by Margaret Cho and was made into an 8-episode TV series, “The Outlaugh Festival on Wisecrack” for MTV’s LOGO network. The series aired continuously for 3 years.
When was the third Outlaugh? The third Outlaugh was in March 2009. Outlaugh 2009 was held in 3 U.S. cities simultaneously (LA, NYC, and Lake Tahoe) Mike Player collaborated with Bob Montgomery at Gotham Comedy Club, Erin Foley at the Hollywood Improv, and Kevin Ray at Lake Tahoe WinterFest. There is no film of ’09. It was solely a live event. It is remembered in legends.
When was the fourth Outlaugh? The fourth Outlaugh was held in June 2011. Sponsored by the West Hollywood Marketing and Visitors Bureau and by the City of West Hollywood, Outlaugh 2011 ran for 3 nights in the main room of the famed Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip. The first Outlaugh Comedy Award was given to Robin Tyler.
When was the fifth Outlaugh? The fifth Outlaugh was held in June 2012 and featured an opening two-night gala at the Macha Theatre in West Hollywood and seven nights of performances as part of The Hollywood Fringe Festival. Outlaugh 2012 was sponsored by The West Hollywood Marketing and Visitor's Bureau and by Inbrook Entertainment. A portion of the gala proceeds were donated to The Lavender Effect. The Second Outlaugh Comedy Award was given to Tom Ammiano.
